Antique vehicle auction for Will County

Antique vehicle collectors from around the world will focus their attention on a tiny corner of Will County this weekend.

George Schaaf, the founder of Schaaf Windows, is selling 63 vintage tractors, cars and trucks as well as dozens of collectible items he’s bought and refurbished through the years. Everything from antique hog oilers to vintage tractors will be up for sale on Friday and Saturday.

Kurt Aumann, who has been an auctioneer since 1982, said Schaaf’s collection is one of the most important auctions his family-owned company, Aumann Auction’s Inc., has handled anywhere in the country.

“This is one of the top ones because of the rarity of the vehicles,” Aumann said. “The quality of this auction is unsurpassed.”

Aumann expects the entire collection to raise an amount deep into seven figures. All of the money will be donated to the Barnabas Foundation, which will use the proceeds for charitable projects around the United States. Some of the money will be spent on a new gym for Chicago Christian High School and Trinity College’s new athletic complex.

The auction begins at 10 a.m. Friday at Schaaf’s homestead, 22718 S. Wirth Lane, which is located northeast of the intersection of Harlem Avenue and Steger Road. All of the collectibles, which include implement seats, hog oilers, tractor company signs, lanterns and toys, will be sold Friday morning. (Hogs used to rub up against the oilers to get a coating that would ward off flies.)

All of the antique vehicles will be started and available for inspection beginning at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon. A collectors’ social will begin at 4 p.m. Friday.
